Opening on Thursday, September 11th 2014 at 5 :30pm
at the Espace Culturel
Français of the Ben Bohane exhibition
Desert Islanders – embedded with Pacific soldiers in Afghanistan.
Exhibition proposed by Alliance française de Port-Vila in association with ADCK-Centre culturel Tjibaou sponsored by Coopération Régionale

This exhibition displays 30 reportage photographs in black and white of soldiers and contractors from around the Pacific who have served in Afghanistan:
islanders from Micronesia, Polynesia, Melanesia, Australia and New-Zealand. Although their service has been mostly unrecognised, this touring exhibition pays tribute to those islanders who have served since 2001 and acknowledges the sacrifices they have made.

The photos are accompanied by a half-hour music-based documentary to give a feel for their "island style": Ben Bohane captured lots of islander soldiers strumming their guitar, and as in any other war, the war in Afghanistan has its own soundtrack - especially when islanders are involved.
