Many manifestations and events took place in Port-Vila to celebrate the Francophony day along with the fourtieth anniversary of the OIF, Organisation internationale de la Francophonie.

While the secretary general of the OIF, M. Abdou Diouf emphasised solidarity, intercomprehension in dialogues and the faith in universal values such as democraty, human rights, peace, humanism, freedom and progress , a parade of many colours made up of more than a thousand people took place in Port-Vila. This parade was led by some high personalities such as the Head of of the government, M. Natapei, the acting Minister of Education and francophony, M. Serge Vohor, who is Minister of infrastructures and public service.

M. Vohor organized a  cocktail at the tourism school during which he gave a speech emphasizing the power of the relationship between francophone countries enabling them to face the challenges of todays’ changing world as well as the role of Vanuatu in the OIF.

In Port-Vila, the Alliance française organised  the FrancoSnick evening on March 19th. This evening brought together many youths, especially students from DAEU and French Lycee who presented some slam, string band … The groups  Genesis and  Tokosouwia managed to create a pleasant atmosphere! The Rootsky from Lifou brought in a touch of kaneka music and other traditional beats to New-Caledonia.

This group was accompanied by  Madame Isabelle Bearune, The President of cultural Commision and Monsieur Mickael Forrest, Director of Culture of the Loyalty islands province of New-Caledonia. This meeting was an occasion to set up a partnership in the future between the Layalty islands province and the Alliance Française in relation to exchange projects of artists.

Moreover, the Alliance Française had also invited Madame Christiane Terrier for a conference on the francophony in the Paific presented to public as well as to DAEU students from Lycée Louis Antoine de Bougainville.

Cultural and sport activities had also been organized in various places of the country such as in Luganville and in Tanna thanks to the fiancial support of the Alliance Française.

The AUF did dits part by organising the traditional dictation competition to which many students participated. This competition saw a success this year with a haitian dictation.

It is also noted that these francophony celebrations have been the occasion for members of Diplomatic Corps and the staff of the regional MSG office based in Port-Vila to start learning French with classes offered by the Alliance Française de Port-Vila in partnership with the French Embassy.

The Alliance Française was sopported by the French Embassy, the Loyalty islands Province  and some private companies such as ANZ bank, Intraco and Vanuatu Brewery.
