Conference: The painters of the street Chimbu of Port Moresby

The week of February 1st, the Alliance Française of Port Vila welcomes René Zimmer, who, having been responsible for training to the IUFM(FRENCH SCHOOL OF EDUCATION) of the Pacific from its creation in 1994, works since 2003 within the department of English of the University of New Caledonia.

His current searches concern the Bestiary and its representations in the Melanesian paint, which he assesses, the comment and the promotion. He is composing a directory of the Melanesian painters and their works, understanding data collected on the ground by questioning the met artists.

René Zimmer will present on Wednesday, February 3rd at 5:30 pm a conference on the painters of street Chimbu of Port Moresby, the artistic production of which offers a wide part to the bestiary. He will confront tales, legends and artistic representations and will accentuate what, beyond apparently simple forms, really underlies the work of art.

An exhibition of about fifteen contemporary paintings resulting from PNG will be presented to this opportunity.

Besides, René Zimmer will liven up a workshop to the artists of Port Vila who wish it on the theme of the bestiary.

René Zimmer is the Aggregated by the University, Doctor in American Literature and President of C.O.R.A.I.L. (Coordination for Oceania of the Searches on the Arts, the Ideas and the Literatures.)
